Using AI without noticing?
The First Piece
You are probably using AI (artificial intelligence) dozens of times a day and don’t even realize it. It has been woven into more and more applications for years! Let’s take a quick look at some of the ways AI is impacting your life.
Voice Recognition
One of the most used types of AI is voice recognition. It is more than being able to tell the difference between one person’s voice from another. It is also being able to tell what you are saying and replying correctly to whatever you said or asked. Phones use this type of AI to accomplish hands-free use while your hands are otherwise occupied allowing you to multitask much easier.
Face Recognition
Another widely used type of AI is face recognition. It is used all over the place such as in hospitals, and law enforcement. Some large companies such as Walmart are also starting to use it. A subsection of facial recognition is using just your eyes.
This is most common in our phones but it is also found in higher-level security systems. Larger retailers like Lowes use AI to help look out for and detect shoplifters that enter their stores.
Banks
Banks are also using AI to make banking on the go much easier and safer which is why some people haven’t been inside a bank for a few years, if at all. AI has made creating an account, depositing, and transferring money easier than ever before.
They also use AI to detect irregularities in activity on a person’s account to help detect fraud before it gets out of hand. AI can also be used to determine if giving someone a loan is a good choice or not by making decisions based on their Credit rating automatically.
Hospitals
Other than face recognition AI, as discussed above, AI is used in many different ways in hospitals. One of the most important things it helps with is being able to monitor patients. Let’s face it, hospitals are often overcrowded. AI allows doctors and nurses to monitor a large number of patients very easily and will let them know if something unforeseen is happening that requires their help.
Chatbots
Chatbots are another way we interact with AI on a regular basis. They are becoming more and more prevalent on big companies’ websites. Chatbots are used to help direct customers to the proper channels and get help to them more quickly than if they tried looking for themselves.
They are also great for getting your questions answered promptly without having to go onto another site or being placed on hold on the phone to get answers. It has the added benefit of enabling employees to spend their time with customers who have unusual or complicated questions or problems.
Personal Assistants
Assistants can also be AI and many of us use one on a regular basis. As of right now, it can make many daily tasks easy like handling your calendar by adding events and meetings you are attending.
It can also set reminders as well as track monthly expenses. In the future, AI assistants will be capable of helping you by looking through your email and only showing you emails that are actually important. They will even be able to mark your calendar with appointments and important dates from the emails you get.
Emails
Emails are a pain to deal with on the best of days. But imagine how much worse it would be if AI hadn’t already culled out most of the spam and sent all those extra emails to your spam folder!
Writing emails is not the most enjoyable thing to do but with smart replies, it can be a lot faster. Smart replies allow you to write emails quickly using AI to streamline the process making writing them quicker and easier than ever before.
Video games
The gaming industry adopted using AI very early on in its lifetime. It has taken many forms over the lifetime of gaming. One of the most common is non-player characters with which people can interact.
Sometimes those characters can even act differently. Another behind the scene type of gaming AI is creating randomly generated maps for people to play in. It has to make sure the player can reach the end goal and not get stuck anywhere while still making sure the player gets a unique experience each and every time they go through a level.
The Big Picture
AI has proven it can make all our lives much easier even if our knowledge of its presence is not always known. Imagine smartphones, email, and banking without it.
The power of AI will only grow and as it grows it will be able to help us in many more fields and even be able to save more and more lives in the fields of medicine and law enforcement. This is a great time to start taking notice and learning more about this technological wonder.
